We all get broken in one way or another in this life. It's an unavoidable part of living. In this all-day workshop we will explore mindful ways of repairing our broken pieces with gold using the centuries-old Japanese art of Kintsugi.
When a bowl, teapot or precious vase falls and breaks into a thousand pieces, we throw them away angrily and regretfully. Yet there is an alternative, a Japanese practice that highlights and enhances the breaks thus adding value to the broken object. It’s called kintsugi (金継ぎ). Literally it means: golden (“kin”) and repair (“tsugi”).
By repairing broken ceramics it’s possible to give a new lease of life to pottery that becomes even more refined thanks to its “scars”. The Japanese art of kintsugi teaches that broken, flawed objects are not something to hide but to display with pride. The scars become what to exhibit, making us stronger and more beautiful than before.
With this contemplative art, we can learn a healing way of making the tears and the pain become the source of joy and growth. We cannot choose when or how adversity and trials will come, but we can choose how to use them to get our life in line with a larger purpose for which we were meant to live out.
With this technique it’s possible to create true and always different works of art, each with its own story and beauty, thanks to the unique cracks formed when the object breaks, as if they were wounds that leave different marks on each of us.
Mindfulness and making art with our hands are tools that used in combination can befriend and bring healing to difficult emotions. Through artful creation of putting the broken pieces back together to make something even more beautiful all while accessing the inner still place of peacefulness that is always there, will create stability, resiliency, confidence and strength in your forward vision for yourself.
Please join me in this one day workshop so that together, we can find out how to turn brokenness into a living miracle of inner healing, by placing it in our own capable hands with renewed strength, clarity and wisdom.
Workshop includes lunch and all materials. You may bring your own whole piece of pottery if you choose.
